| Transcript | [Written upside down across top of page 1] The day I began to move Jaycope moved the Bedstead & bedding here, out away ----------------------------------------------------------- Wednesday the 8th./79 Dear Son At last I find myself domiciled in "my own hired house" and must say I like it very much. How I enjoy having a good fireplace, and a nice tight rooms where I don't have to go our in the cold & rain for anything. I expect however when I get everything arranged and feel more at leisure that a sense of loneliness will be experienced. No familiar voice, or foot- step to look forward to greet me when the buisy [sic] days work is done however I shall as far as possible endeavor to dispel those fond recollections and look our for other objects & sources of enjoyment in their stead/ I moved part of my effects Monday and the balance yesterday, just did get here and have time to get everything in before the drizzle set in, I had a nice lot of wood hauled, cut up & put into the room used as a dining room by the for- mer occupants of the place. I do my immense cooking in the back room and eat in there too But to my great grief the chimney smokes Badly - but just as soon as I am done with it I bring all the burning wood into the front ------------------------------------------------------ room. I would say in response to your kind offer that in case I needed anything to let you know" - I would like to have a small table with a drawer in it, the one I left with you would do, tho if it is useful to you please get me a larger one perfectly plain - white pine colored in imitation of walnut will correspond with what I have in the room - also one of those swi- nging bookshelves that would be easily put up, or taken down - And half a lb of black Tea & the same of young Hyson, I bought it at that place where they keep Parch -ed coffee allready ground. It is on Main St. but I do not know their names. I have no knives & forks except three old rusty ones I had stored away I find everything here of that kind very dear. bring me also a sugar bowl. Sallie looked dreadfully lonely when I left, no one but her & Charlie I wonder she don't send for Willie to come home, Gas went to Montgomery yesterday My cough still hangs on tho it is less severe now than it has been, and with it all I am feeling tolerably well With best wishes & much love affectionately Your Mother Mary Jones |
