| Transcript | Willis Jan. 3rd 1879 My Dear Son Your very kind and welcome letter of the 30th Inst, reached me, also the shoes for Elliot which I am much obliged, they fit him very well tho rather large; And more than all else I do I prize the kind interest and sympathy breathed through your letter for my comfort and happiness; I have not been able to move yet owing to the continued cold weather preventing me from going out to lay in my little stock of supplies Today week I was down town, and by going out took and additional cold and have had a very hard distressing cough ever since. I am trying to bring into requisition the little remnant of patience yet remain- ing to aid me in bearing the restraints imposed by bad weather, & ill health, as well as discomfort. Today week when I was out I found it too cold to stop long enou -gh to see what in the way of furniture I could find that I would be obliged to Have. I will if it is not raining try to move tomorrow tho I think it very doubtful if I can from the appearance of the weather ----------------------------------------------------------- today. Before moving I wished very much to go and open the house and air it well and dry out the dampness be having a good fire kept up all day in both fire places I will let you know if I need anything I cannot get here. At my time of life I may find it rather a difficult matter to go our hunting up supplies, for I am often reminded that I am an old woman. In spite of all adverse surroundings New Years day passed with me in accordance with your kind wishes "peaceful" and quietly. With much love and best wishes Affectionately Your Mother Mary Jones.
