| Transcript | Dec 27th 1878 My Dear Son I have thawed out a little to- -day. You may be sure we had a cold old time of it by the little stove. But by dint of keeping it red hot all the time we all managed to keep tolerably comfor- table. How I regretted not being mov- ed to more comfortable quarters. I have not seen or heard form Mr. Jaycope since you left, will go down this eve -ning and see him Sallie sent Willies dress yesterday by mail but it was not registered, that is no stamp put on the package. Miss Bell told Charlie it was not necessary after paying for the weight 22 oz which he did. hope it may reach you safely. Tell Mrs. Ashe Doct Jordan sent her by last evenings express a fine Christmas Turkey Charlie has looked the town over for a pair of thick shoes for Elliot will you send me up a pair of thick ones suitable for cold weather. Get them at L M Jones' as you can get good ones there & cheaper than at some ------------------------------------------------------- other shoe stores. I send the exact length of his foot. I would not trouble you with such matters if I could avoid it I am not feeling as sad today as I did the morning you left, nor so unwell either I hope you have had an enjoy able Christmas.
