TranscriptHarris Co. Headquarters March 29th/66 Col Theo G. White Galveston Dear Sir Your kind favor of March 10th together with the recit for lands in your care reached me pr. Mr Kern for all of which please accept my sinceer thanks. What you did in the Clear Creek land matter is entirely satisfactory I cannot close without expressing to you Sir the relief it is to me that my affairs are in your care, feeling as I assure you I do that all will be done to protect and sub serve my interests that is possible - of in asked me and also Mr. Kern I believe what price we I would set upon the lands in the Nueces to which question you have had no reply indeed I feel unable to give one I would rather say to you to sell it foe whatever you can, but as Mr Kern is interested in these lands I will leave it to him to arrange with you at as earlie a day as possible Very Respectfully Mary Jones [On verso]: When I came to understand what Col White had done I found he had settled with Mrs Allen taking a a quit Claim title & beside the land was covered about three Mortgages deep already So I lost it, and could only sell It for a song - about 50.00 dol. was all I ever received for my 1978 dollars loaned Col E Allen deliver me from "my best friend" I could have looked out for an enemy.
