| Transcript | [Written in pencil in another's hand] For Gas 8 feet 6 inch belting 1 doz lacing strings- ½ yard Gum packing ---------------------------------------------- Willis August 23rd./78 Dear Son I think it will be well to bring up when you come the Deed &c &c to Head Quarters as we have concluded the trade with Wiggins provided his Title is all right when you see it Gaston thinks it will be found good, but he is too much absorbed in other matters to even take the time to look a W's deed I think the place will be valuable to us, for various reasons I am very glad that such an exchange has been made; we could not be worsted certainly. I called to see Mrs Ashe yesterday morning & she came up last evening to spend the afternoon with us as Sallie was not able to call on her at Mrs Jordans. Have just received your favor of yesterday and have sent your letter round for Mrs Ashe to read as she was feeling so worried about her house being open ------------------------------------------------------------ Although I have not sent a congratulatory epistle yet I have not felt indifferent at the passing events of the Convention; and was not surprised at your being nominated again for County Judge. I have not heard from Sam since the 8th or 9th of this present month, he wrote no doubt immediately after receiving my letter of the 3rd Ult. but no date to his letter except Augst We all keep upon our feet this hot weather except Sallie, she is never well of late, suffers from debility so much. Gaston has been so much occupied that we have failed to get any Peaches to put up, and indeed not many to eat which I regret; as we have neither garden or milk. If Irish potatoes & onions are selling at a reasonable price please send me up a barrel of each tomorrow With best wishes Affectionately Your Mother Mary Jones |
