TitleLetter to Cromwell Anson Jones, 23 December 1877
CreatorJones, Mary Smith McCrory
DescriptionLetter from Mary Jones, wife of the last president of the Republic of Texas.
TranscriptWillis Dec 23rd 1877 My Dear Son I have delayed writing until today to see how the weather would be, and also to see how I would feel, as I had men- tioned to you that I was suffering with a cold. I do not think it would be advisable for me to leave home on my own & Elliots account as we both have been quite unwell from severe colds. I think it best for old folks to keep by the fire and take care of themselves Both Mr Golden and his Mother have been quite sick with colds, made worse by exposure and want of timely and proper care Please mention to Mrs. Ashe the cause of my nonappearance I wish you all a Merry Christmas I wrote to Sallie last week and requested her to retrun by the way of Willis if she could con- veniently. But on account of the heavy rains I doubt if they went to Houston altho they spoke of doing so when she wrote me last With best wishes and much love Your Mother Mary Jones I have enjoyed the Oranges so much suppose of course you sent them
