TranscriptSunday Dec. 15th./77 My Dear Son Yours of the 14th Inst. Received. I delivered your message to Saml at Doct Jordans where Sam I was at the time Saml handed me your letter In regard to Kates interest I fear she is already bared, it is either six or seven years since she married. I had already written to John inclosing the letter to his Cousin Jacob Hill who lives at Sanfelipe. John was speaking of moving from there when he wrote me last. I requested Mr Hill for forward it to John in case he had left There is Mary Cooks Child Laura who is an heir in her mothers right in case her Mother did not live five years after her marriage I have written to day to Mr Hill making the enquiry. Laura is now about eighteen, or nineteen, years of age. I am very glad you have offered to gove them some assistance as they would not know how to proceed. I am certain Mr Bollinger did not sell the place to pay any community debts and am certain also that Mr Butler will upon proper application being made to him settle the matter with the rightful remaining heirs ------------------------------------------------------------ I have been feeling quite unwell for the past two days. I do not think I can go down to Houston to the Christmas dinner but will write you again and let you know I am taking a severe cold which may make me too sick to do anything in the way of getting ready. I had a note from Sallie, she speaks of going down I hope they will as a trip from home will do them all good Affectionately Your Mother Mary Jones [Written cross-wise, in pencil, on lower half of page 4] Sam has just informed me of a Box having come up from Houston for me I take it for granted it is from you hence this ac- knowledgment MJ
