| Transcript | Willis Dec 6th 1877 Dear Son Last evening at ten Oclock your favor of the 5 Inst. reached me by Mr. Golden. Of course I could not reply until this morning. I prefer the cashmere, as it is thicker and more suitable for winter use. Please get it for me if as you say "it is yd. wide or a little over" seven yds. will be sufficient for my purpose be certain about the width, & should it not be at least yd. wide get eight yds. Never mind about the calico I can get it here when I need it. I have not been to town yet, may go down there this eve- ning. Yesterday I had a not from Sallie, all well there, I send her the papers as you re- quested after I read them; I like Mr. Cokes speech very much, he talks like a Book and I trust his efforts may be successful in procuring protection for our Western border, so long neglected I am glad you reached Houston from here in good "case" , I feared you might lose a nights sleep The might after you left here we had a letter addition to the family, a young Mr. Golden, a bright little fellow for one of his age ------------------------------------------------------------------- so you were fortunate in making your visit and getting away in good time. Sallie wrote me yesterday that it would be impossible for them to join in the Christmas reunion dinner at Mr. Ashes on Christmas day, as they could not leave their place alone. I may be down if the weather is pleasent, not otherwise I don't like the idea of leaving comfortable quarters in the winter, as I take cold so easily. I have scarcely felt this severe cold weather as I have good fires all the time and then the cold wind is not blowing all through the house to freeze one side, while warming the other Elliot recovered from his severe cold in a few days, and with less trouble than is usual for him With best wishes And much love for my dear Son Mary Jones. Last evening a number of papers come from you, I can send them out to Sallie Saturday next. I enclose the sample of Cashmere back to you to compare when you go to make the purchase send it up this week if convenient |
