| Transcript | Willis Nov. 14th 1877 My Dear Son At last I have got back to Willis, reached here last evening and came out to Mrs Goldens just before night have been all morning getting my "traps" arranged in my trunks so as to be able to find them again when needed. I have a very nice room up stairs with a fire place in it but no furniture except a bedstand and washstand and a few cahirs, Mrs. G says however that she will give me a table & looking glass soon & I will have one of my own brought out here that is at Mrs. Jordans which will add to my comfort Samuel told me last evening that you spoke of coming up so soon as you heard that I was here. I shall be delighted to see you - As I wish to talk up matters with you. As you once said "we are great on that, " whether it amounts to anything or not, it does one good. If you do come up I wish you would ------------------------------------------------------- bring me a few articles, to wit I am in need of two calicos for winter please get them for me. something dark with a mingled well covered ground, of black & white - fourteen yds. of each Also eight yds. of Tamise Cloth (black) I see it advertised at Sternes at (25 cts.) pr. yd; It is a fine handsome goods for dresses ladies dresses. I only want enough to make a long Polanaise it is yard wide, or what I have seen was about that width Sallie & Willie came in with me yesterday and intended returning today, but the heavy rain of last night & this morning may put the roads on an impassable condition as some places were boggy yesterday and a good deal of water standing. I regret very much that they their detention, or if they should start home today the terrible time they may have in making the trip back. Sallie brought Willie in to have two teeth extracted; Charlie is keeping house during their absence, has a young man there for company. I wish very much Sallie could have met you here How I pity her out in that lonely country and had it seemed a thing possible for me to have remained there, I would have dome so rather than to have her so much alone ---------------------------------------------------------- a prey to her own sad reflections. How deeply she feels her condition. She would not she says care so much about being poor, but for Gastons condition as well also as her own poor health. I found her looking very badly and suffering from every little exertion she made. But since cooler wea- ther she has been very much better. She stood the ride yesterday much better than I did, that is it did not seem to fatigue her very much. Gaston is now busy ginning all the time, but there will not be enough to do to scarcely pay expenses. I suppose Mr Ashe has not found anything in Houston for Gas to do, as he has not written him If the weather is pleasent Mrs Ashe or Miss Mary can do the shopping for me Tell Mrs Ashe I intend writing her very soon with kindest regards to them all, and much love to yourself from your Affectionate Mother Mary Jones All well at Doct Jordans; Gaston is still intending to go down to Houston as soon as he can possible do so but as the roads are now & the River up he may be delayed for some time yet ------------------------------------------------------------- Your letter of Oct 28 reached me some time since When you send any mail matter up to Sallie or Gas direct to Willis as no one scarcely ever goes to Grand Lake from Gastons neighborhood I have not replied yet to Mrs Lynes letter but will do so soon |
