| Transcript | Willis Oct 5th./77 My Dear Son Today I have decided to remain here for a time have procured board at Mrs Goldens at $20. dollars pr. month can get board and washing at a cost of $22.50 cts pr. month Sam will furnish me ten or more if I need it & he says if you will supply me with ten dol that will leave me my interest money to use for my clothing or to save incuring a debt I can use some of it to pay board with Dear Son don't think me captious or fickle I appreciate your knod offers and efforts for my comfort, & as much as I would like to near you I must confess to you that to board as propsed would be anything but agreeable to me. and the more I reflected upon the subject the more unhappy it made me, until I deter mined to make an arrangement with strangers Who will expect nothing of me but to pay my board & here too I can get milk, which to me is no small item &c &c ---------------------------------------------------- I have not arranged for any certain length of time as I feel determined to have a home of my own at the earliest time possible Doct Jordan thinks he knows of a place out near Mrs Goldens that can be purchased at about five hundred dol, Sam & I have looked at it Sam says the improvements would cost more money than without the five acres of land and all which is improved into as can it be with fruit trees two gardens [ ] in also a large yard with Cedar trees & other kinds of ornam mental trees & Shrubbery. Lem Dunn owns the place, but at present he is absent Dunn is said to be deeply involved and is obliged to make sacrifices to raise money Doct J says further that the place is worth a thousand dollars just as it stands. I thought I would mention all these things to you as I do not wish to make any arrangement without your advice & approval. I have today informed Mrs Ashe of my fickleness, and excused myself as well as I could. I left a Trunk of my clothing a little sack of dried Peaches and my sack of feathers Mrs A has a trunk Key that will unlock ------------------------------------------------------- my trunk please get it & put the little bag of fruit in to the it there will I think be room enough by putting some of the small things in the Treys so as to make room for the fruit, wrap my Glass pitcher carefully - jam it full of little things I may not get away form here before Sunday or Mon day next. Write me by tomorrows mail You need not unless it is perfectly convenient to do so send my things up for two weeks yet but at anytime Sam will take charge of them when they come. I will spend two weeks out with Sallie & then return here With many wishes and much love from Your half sick Mother Mary Jones I have written amid talking with unhinged nerves M Jones (Mrs. Bringhirst) Miss Nettie Houston that was beged me to thank you for your kindness in getting her bag gage on the train her & I had a nice chat --------------------------------------------------- I told her our meeting a second time was a coincidence & that I always made a note of such occurrences, She is a very charming woman indeed Gen.
