| Transcript | March 12th 1877. My Dear Son As Mr. Grove informed you by Postal card last week, that I had reached home all safe the evening of the day I parted with you. I was very glad to see Gastons face on the platform at the Grand Lake depot as I did not come on the accommodation Train he waited expecting I should be on the passen ger , or that a letter would come if I did not. This was what we concluded he would do. It took me several days to rest up did not know how much I was fatigued until after I had reached home, and the excitement of being a week in a city had died out. Now I am feeling very badly from a severe cold, tho able to be up, indeed I have to be up as Sallie is in bed from cold and other causes, though not seriously ill Was glad to get you favor of the 3 Inst, and to learn you had placed my money at interest. Your letter I have placed with my accounts as you mentioned having put with my $1200. dollars three hundred of your own money, all payable to my ------------------------------------------------------ order. I am very thankful to have - even twelve hundred dollars - and to be out of debt. Gaston had a letter of late date form Mr. Sam Ashe he was still in Washington City Suppose he is at home ere this. How heart sick we felt the news of Hays inauguration way off in a corner of the Presidents House, what a shame we could not have had Mr. Tilden but so it is, an other four, or it may be six years of misrule I found a letter here upon my return home from Sister Miranda she informed me that old Mr. Kern died the 25th of Dec. last and that his family had written and Telegraphed to John Kern but no tid -ings of his whereabouts can be found, the replys are this. "No such person is here now" I wonder what is up with him now. I found Gaston is improving all the time, but still delays going down to Houston to get a truss say he cannot spare the money Last evening, Shep Mr. Rose & Gas went out fire hunting and brought back three deer at about midnight. Mr Johnsons father was a nephew of my step fathers, so my sisterinlaw informs me And that his Mr. Johnsons father was at Mr Woodruffs while he lived in Houston & from there went back to Tenn. now two of his sons have come back to Texas have been here three years are I suppose well off or well to do, as the saying is Well it is raining and we are in dread of a freeze that will kill all the fruit as the trees have all bloomed. about the change of the moon in March is the time we usually have a freeze. God grant we may not this year , as I did not have as many peaches as I could eat but once last season Sister Miranda says she will look for me again thes spring. Brother is in good health Gaston & Sallie were well pleased with the sale and disposition of money to pay Taxes &c &c &c and expressed themselves as feeling under many obligations to you for your attention to all our land matter, as well also for your kindness in attending to their other little commands. Everything we purchased suits to a dot. The stove almost cooks alone. It gave me real pleasure to see Sallie have some comforts she had needed so long.
