| Transcript | Willis Oct 7th./75 My Dear Son This morning Mr. Jordan handed me your welcome favor, was glad to hear that Sam was still improving. And that has tools had been found, and that he could have employment for them at once. Well in regard to myself, and my efforts to get into better quarters for the winter - immediately upon the receit of yours of the 29th I applied to Mr Sandal Mrs Georges Son inlaw & one of the executors of his will, who agreed to rent me Mr Gs late residence at ten dollars pr month to be paid in advance. Sallie seems so deeply distressed at the idea of my going away to keep house by myself & at in a rented house, that I have called on Mr Lan -dal & asked if he would hold the matter over until I could see Mr. Ashe & yourself to which he consented, to still give me the refusal until sometime next week say about the middle of the week. The trouble is Gaston is not able ------------------------------------------------------------ to pay ten dollars a month for a house. I have thoughts of this plan as he is embarrassed and I do not like to feel that he is at expense for my accommodation and support for us to pay the rent and for us all to remain together say for the coming year with the hope that we all will be better able to situate ourselves better & move to suit all parties I have suggested this to Sallie but of course she cannot decide upon anything until Gaston comes up again he may be here any day after Satur day next, most likely will be here Sunday eve ning. But again Sallie seems to dislike the idea of your being at any expense in a place they would occupy. I tell her that no matter how that amount was used as it would be for my benefit as I do not feel that it is right, nor agreeable to my feelings to burden him in his present circumst ances in the smallest degree. As much as I desire to at once have the quiet of a home, I feel willing to remain with her this year as her health is very poor and their situation is, I fear the cause more than anything else. It seems to grieve her very much ---------------------------------------------------------------------- that I was entertaining the idea of having a home of my own, she said that she had tried to make me feel at home. I replied that I had felt perfectly at home & welcome but that no place was could ever be a home to me where I could not have that quiet I had been accustomed to that to be in hearing of every word & every step taken from early dawn until bed time did not suit me that I had gone through with the turmoil of raising one family and that now I craved rest & quiet she said "Ma, you ought to have it & if I had the means you should have just such a place as you desire, but I am not able to help myself or you either as much as it grieves me to see you in discom -fort" &c &c. I hope we may be able to help make some arrangement that will be satisfactory to her as I feel deeply for her. I could doubtless get board at [ ] Wood- ridges, but in case I could Sallie says she would go to Boggy for the winter that she would not stay here alone You need not get anything or bring up the little Table at present. I will make Sam contri but[e] something to our arrangement whatever it may be.
