TranscriptWillis Sept. 25th./75 Dear Son My good friend Mrs. Glaze's Husband is very Sick, & has been now some ten days, I he is suffering with torpid liver, has fever all the time and I loaned her what I had (half a bottle) of the Indian Physic, it had a very good effect & she wants more of it, and has asked me to procure it of for her through you. Please do us the favor to send up by tomorrows express two Bottles of it. Care of R G Ashe I will not inclose the money as everything is in such an unsettled condition, but have it in my possession & I will send it to you by first safe oppor -tunity including the express charges and so forth. & my dear Son try to get it here at the earliest time possible Poor Sam reached here an hour after night last night looking truly like a wreck in mind body and estate how sad he seems took medicine last night is better this morning is up, oh what a heartrending account he gives of the old Burg and San Jacinto and their inhabitants Send me fifteen dollars as soon as you can I can get what I need here. All well Affectionately Mary Jones [written on the verso] Mr George our Post Master died last night
