TranscriptWillis April 25th 1875 My Dear Son I have received Your several letter[s], also some papers all of which were acceptable. The letter you sent up inclosed was from Mr West, of Baytown offer ing to purchase my stock at seven dol. pr head. I accepted the offer, as I would be at no expense in gathering them & as I know they would decrease in stead of increase with no one to look after them. I do not think there is a single last years calf. I did not see one with any of the cows Tell Mrs. Ashe I am trying to get ready for the fair. I doubt ---------------------------------------- if Sallie or Mrs. Jourden will go down. I have found a few of the fixtures to my wardrobe will bring them down when I come. My health is now much better, yet I cough every change of weather as we have no fire place, and almost continued cool weather. Sallie & her two Children went to Sunday School & to Church to hear Mr. E Stocking Preach. Monday morning This morning Mr. Stocking called to see me, has just left, he alluded in very f[l]attering terms of to you & your succee -ding in business, he said "I ought to be very proud of ------------------------------------------------- you" I replied that I tried to feel thankful for such a a blessing as you had ever been to me; that I daily felt a thousand fold reco mpenced for all that was really termed trouble in rais ing a child, he said "it seemed but a day since you were a little boy" and taking a part in Sunday school at Harmony Grove" An other norther this morning how the cold hangs on, I fear crops will be seriously injured Cotton especially With best wishes and much love from your Mother Mary Jones Bill Harris has been here taking "Picters" left Saturday Sallie sends love
