Transcript[Written on verso of letter to Mary Jones from Col. Woodward] Dear Son I wrote to Col. Woodward as you will see by this to enquire what had be come of the Books containing the proc -eedings of the Mining Man[u]factury &c &c Company your Father was President of it as long as he lived We have twenty shares in it perhaps it would be well to call on Capt Turner and see what he is doing with the Books &c &c &c it may be worth looking after as the Charter embraces every privilege one could ask and capitalist might some day give something for it ------------------------------------------------------ [Recto of page is letter from M. Woodward to Mrs. Mary Jones] Hempstead 12 Jany 1875 Mrs. Mary Jones Linchburge Texas My Dear Madam Your kind letter of the 24 December Came to hand Yesterday, the 11 Instant [ ] Noted I hastened reply. After Dr. Jones Deth I became the President of the company The Books was in my Possession I became in Volved the Bookes was in My Deske the Deske was Taken to Houston by Capt. Turner of the H[ ] ing hous & they are still there I wish you would nt ask to look after then [i.e. them] the charter is still a live and I have bin anchious to Pra[ ] it to affect your Interest is Safe if [ ] I wish to serve it and Get the benefit of the Charter. My Wife is confin'd To her bed cannot live long Hop to her from you again Soon Respectfully you[r] friend M. Woodward
