TranscriptJuly 20th 1875 My Dear Son Yours of the 19th Inst reached me this morning. None of my half Sisters live in Fayette Co, but in Gonzales & Williamson No doubt I have some acquaintances in Fayette but cannot call to mind any one at present. Mr. Ennis most likely could put you in correspondence with some one in that Co. as his sisterinlaw Mrs Merriwether lived in Lagrange years ago. My eyes have been very weak for some time past so much so that I do not read or write, any. And then too I have had nothing pleasant to write about. Elliot has been very sick is barely able to walk alone now, for twenty days he was in bed & part of the time very sick - he is improvi ng fast but is very thin & feeble my own health strange so say after so much loss of sleep & fatigue is good. My eyes being so weak is a ----------------------------------------------- [across top center of page] ] Sallie Received Gas Letter this morning source of regret as I dislike to be idle and unable to find something to do all the time that does not tire me too much. We are here on dead expe nses and this makes me feel sad to be in such and unsettled state, do not know what we can do, or where we may go, or when we may have to move again. I am thinking of going down to the old place shortly to look after our interests there wish the place was sold so I could get a home some where that I could live in quiet & comfort once more - I will deliver you mes- sage to Sam he is doing well and spoke of paying you some more money when you come down Please send me a felt hat for Elloit no. 61/2 I think will fit him I want it for every day ware so not a fine hat Sam will pay you for it, the shoes & yarn when you come down All well.
