| Transcript | Sanjacinto Sunday Dec 20th 1874 My Dear Son Yours of the 13th last, only reached me last night after dark And also a note from Sam Ashe to Mr. Sydnor in which he mentioned Gastons being sick at his house, so you see how impossible it is for me to leave home. At this time nothing under other circumstances would have afforded me so much ple -asure as to have paid you a visit. I could not at this time leave Sallie in such deep sorrow, poor child she seems to be so deeply afflicted, her sobs & groans are the last sounds I hear every night I fully appreciate your kindness and would have been delighted to gratify your wishes had this late affliction not come upon us. I feel that my presence is some comfort at least. I am so sorry Gaston is away so long & sick too. Send Sallie some papers to read as something new to read will divert her mind -------------------------------------------------- I as well as your self pity poor & [ ] she has not written us a I suppose the Doct. is so highly insulted at us all for not even mentioning his name that he has forbid[den] her writing to any of us. So mite it be I say Yet I feel a kind syn pathy for her & her sweet little Children Charles & Willie have both been a lit -tle complaining the past week Elliot & I are both very well Shall be glad to see you at any time. Mrs Jourdan is over at Mrs Harralds will likely be gone most of the time until after the Races she had improved greatly As ever your loving Mother Mary Jones. |
