TranscriptDecr 14 - 1874 - My Darling Son I write you a few lines to say that I cannot stay away from home more than two or three days at most Sallies continued grief is very sad to me as I can but sympathize with her and do not feel willing to be away until she becomes more reconciled at almost any time I can go up with you (will leave Elliot here with Sis) but will have to be governed by the weather, in case it continues cold and wet home is the best place for me we always have some pleasant weather in January & I might go up then but would prefer to go while Mrs Jourden is here I would like a barrel of Apples if you can get one on reasonable terms Specked ones would do as we would be able to use the most of them up in the course of a week. Sam & I will pay you for them & the other articles when you come down. I was sick a week nearly after you left but am quite well now Elliot is as fat as a pig & talks about you Your loving Mother Mary Jones over ------------------------------------------------------- say to Mrs Ashe I would like much to help her eat Christmas Turkey
