| Transcript | (Sunday) Sanjacinto Nov 15th./74 Dear Son I have tried all this week to find time to drop you a few lines, Sallies three children have been sick again, first Willie just as she was able to be out of bed all day Charles was taken with a chill was in the bed a week. And poor little Dick has frequent attacks, is having one of his spells now. Elliot has been very well for the last four weeks, is as fat & rosy as any Child & full of life & mischief Sam has finished at Mrs. Ropers. And Mr. Sydnor has employed him to put up an- other Gin, in place of the one just burned it took fire while Ginning on Friday last from matches in the seed cotton I as well as yourself rejoice at the success of the Democratic Party God Grant every mean thieving Radical may be put out of power, from Grant down My heart was filled with regret at poor Brothers having to lose his place & what he has already paid on it $1, 100 or thereabouts His wife wrote me that you was trying to save them something by looking into Brothers ----------------------------------------------------------- neglected matters, she seemed so grateful to you for it too. As far as looks goes no one would take him to be in bad health as he is mow quite fleshy & to all appearance in good health Most any Physician not acquainted with him would say he was a healthy man Gaston thinks he can rent the old home to a very good man with only a wife and re- serve room for us to spend the summer there at they fear to risk an other Summer here. I will never spend a summer in this sickly musquito hole. In case we do go there we will have to make some repairs, but of this an other time as there is time enough. About every two weeks I have a little sick spell of one or two days, have lost much of my flesh already but feel pretty well most of my time. My health is never so good in the winter. I doubt if I leave home this winter as it is too much trouble to take my little Charge & I could not well leave him with Sis, as she has no servant We all are are doing all our work except washing ironing & scouring that we can hire done every week, but not a regular cook on any reasonable terms I hope you will come down next month as I see so little of you ---------------------------------------------------------- am thankful you are getting along so well. I have ever felt certain that you would succeed as you are so prompt and attentive to business God speed you is all the aid I can give you to Hea- ven [I wish] I could have done more to aid you when you so much needed help. I try however to take comfort in knowing I shall only have to greater cause in a just pride in your success in after years if I should be spared. I often think of you alone in your room at night stu- dying. I feel likeI can see you when I close my eyes to rest them, not to sleep Frequently, as of late they have felt weak Sallie had sore eyes when Gaston was absent but got off with only a slight attack her health is quite good Sam has just bid he say for you to draw on Mr. Sydnor about the middle of the present week for $25. dollars I wish you would get me a pair of Calf skin shoes No 5s broad in the bottom and soft as you can find. also a pair for Elliot No 5s with Copper finish soft leather as possible 2 lbs of woolen yarn about the size of the enclosed sample. I would ------------------------------------------------------ prefer blue or black mixed if to be had, if not white will do. I think you can get it good and the shoes too at Ward Deney & Co. Last week Capt McCormicks remains were taken up & intered at his Mothers old place beside his Par ents his family were present Poor Julia do you know where they are now, she has not written any of us a line. I suppose the Doct. took umbrage at our not mentioning his name while she was here and has forbid her writing to people who are guilty of such an outrage. Tell Mrs. Ashe I will write her and hope to be able to send her quilt up very soon. it was not done the first of this past week. Do as you may deem best about selling the Blanco land As ever your loving Mother Mary Jones.
