| Transcript | Sanjacinto Sunday Jany 25th, 1874 My Dear Son I have looked anxiously for a few line from you as you left me feeling so unwell. have taken it for granted that no news was equi valent to good news. Last night Gas ton was up at the store being his night to be on watch, he received yours of Friday Sam was glad to get the message it contained although his present berth is a good one for the present, Yet it is not permanent and of course he is anxious to get fixed for a certainty where he can be comfortable I think he dreads the idea of leaving his little one who is becoming more in- teresting every day is now perfectly well and is walking his last fevers were caused by sore mouth which lasted some ten or more days, his mouth looked like it was badly salivated would bleed every time it was washed. (I used a wash of borax & honey) he is now very little trouble to me that morbid appetite has left him. I sometimes try to feed him thinking he must be hungry but he will refuse to eat ----------------------------------------------------------- But don't I rejoice at the successful expulsion of that infamous radical party. They had to be litterally kicked out. I thank God daily for the riddance to our State and people, a momentous weight has been removed from my heart and I well know how relieved you must feel I hope everything will brighten with you and that prosperity may folow as I am unable to aid you as I so much desire to. I have desired means more on your account than for anything else on earth and but for hoping that something would yet "turn up" in turn to be of service I would would indeed be miserable nothing here in the way of news. All well. My health is now very good. Let me hear from you don't feel any hesitancy in letting me know how you are succeeding May heavens blessing attend your efforts is the wish and prayer of your loving Mother Mary Jones. ------------------------------------------------------ [Written in one corner of page 4] My kindest regards to Mrs Ashe I will send her table napkins by todays Boat or tomorrow - night have attended to the requests she made I will try to reply to her letter soon MJ.
