CreatorJones, Mary Smith McCrory
DescriptionLetter from Mary Jones, wife of the last president of the Republic of Texas.
TranscriptSunday Morning Aug, 2, /73] Dear Son Yours by Bartly of July 10th came duly to hand found us all in tolerable duly health considering the very warm & rainy weather we have had Dear little Baby is now sick. Friday night last and part of yesterday he seemed dan- gerously ill, still suffers with indi- gestion causing fevers & prostration. I fear it will be hard work for him to get through the summer safely My own health is as good as I can hope for all things considered. I do not feel like going up to Brothers until cooler and healthier weather comes. Will begin to talk about it in October per- haps. The musketoes [sic] are terrible here now, no doubt you have some of the same pestiferous tribe in Houston The grapes are now ripe, Peaches nearly all gone I will not be able to put up any new this year; but feel determined to buy some as I am so very fond of it & I believe too it gives me strength during these long hot summers. I wrote you early in July by Sam when he went up from here to pay him sixteen dollars for me ----------------------------------------------------- And now I wish you to pay to Mr Sydnor $14, dollars & some cents.50 cts for some articles I have got of him lately. Gaston will go to the "Burg" this evening if the babe continues to improve this morning he is better. Nellie is well again I have been looking for you down for the last week, hope yet you may come soon as the grapes may last some ten days longer As ever your loving Mother Mary Jones I saw Mrs. Page yesterday she is anxious to see you in regard to some of her business, was going up but I told her you would be down I thought soon, so she will wait to see you here
