| Transcript | [Written upside down along top of page 1] Remember me kindly to May Looskrun Head Quarters June 11th, /73 My Darling Son Your welcome favor of the 1st Inst reached me five days after date, since which time I have not taken the time to reply having undertaken to set the house to rights again after the confusion caused by Sallies long illness. I am now done, and glad to rest form my three weeks job. You know I cannot do much of such work in one day wich made it long & tedious. Sallie is improving slowly goes all about the place and can take the entire care of her Baby which is a relief to me Brothers visit was a surprise to me he arrived at the Island the night Gaston & Sallie went down ------------------------------------------------ they only had time to speak as Capt Sherritt was calling our "all aboard" "all aboard" Brother seemed in very low spirits, thinks he will never regain his health I urged him to go & see Doct Heard but like every head of a family he could not spare the time from home until the grave closes over him I was quite sick for a few days, was taken the with fever the Sunday night after you left here. Miss Jennie or Miss Lenna Galillard staid with us night & day until I was perfectly well. We are certainly blessed with the kindest nei- ghbors in the world, if with nothing else particularly I am glad you have brought suit for your claim against the O. H. concern Mr Gillette said to me in the presence of Kern & J [ ] that he "knew you had not been paid & that he would --------------------------------------------- see that you was paid" if there is any loop holes to crawl out of paying you I believe that pious hypocrite will find them. I have not been out of sight of the place since my return in January last. I intend however making a regular call all round on all our good neigh- bors. Sallie is not able to ride horseback & having no other way to go I will have to visit for us both And you may well imagine I do not feel like doing my won duty in this respect would rather much spend the time in resting & perfect quite both of which have been strangers to me for the past four months Tell Mrs Byran for me that as soon as I get good & rested that I --------------------------------------- [Written upside down along top of page 4] I thought of you the 5th Inst. You are getting quite old as well as myself --------------------------------------- intend inflicting a few lines upon her, remember me kindly to all the Household, and beside tell Eddy I am much obliged for the call he made me while so near. Gastons crop looks well, are having too much rain, all are dreading the Cotton worm. We have had some fine plums and will have peaches sufficient for our own own use, a good grape crop in prospect, likewise Figs Sallie says to tell you & Mrs Bryan how dee- ply she regrets not being able to visit you & her. Your letter were was forward to Sallie here. Harris our Picture man is on the Bayou taking "picters" again.
