| Transcript | [Written upside down at the top of page 1] Tell Mrs B I did not have time today to write her will do so soon [as] Mr Ashe makes a short stay. Head Quarters Nov. 25th, /72 My Darling Son Your welcome letter of the 22nd that came to land last evening contents all noted, am glad you will be in funds trust there will be no mistake or further delay. In regard to the Clear Creek interest it has turned out just as I long hadve long expected it would or for some time past Trueheart & Andrews have been steadily at work getting the matter into their own hands and weaving a net to keep all others our of ever realizing anything unless they can pay them about the price they could sell at to any one else. I see no alternative now but to sell to them. I will see further however about it and let you know my views I will be in Houston soon, by or before the mid- dle of December as I risk to make the long promised visit to Mrs. Bryan & return to the Burg by Christmas to eat dinner with Mr. and Mrs Sam Ashe, and to visit Sam & Jennie while there. Tell Mrs. B I anticipate much pleasure in visiting her as there are but few now of the old tried veterans of other days left it is a treat to meet and talk over old times with one. And then too I am so constituted that I cannot take real pleasure in the society of strangers. I have no time & I fear less taste for cultivating ----------------------------------------------------------------------- [written upside down along top of page 2] I am glad Mary B is gone to Baltimore as she will enjoy it much & Mrs. B will be so happy in being able to con- tribute so largely to her two oldest childrens pleasure and improvement. May Heaven bless her all though life with plenty. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- new friendships, but love dearly to meet old tried friends. Tell Mrs B I have not been waiting for a formal invitation, from her, other causes have kept me away. Remember me kindly to her & the little girls also Mrs. Styles if you should see her betwen now & my coming I wish to make a stop at the Burg of a few days before going up to Houston. You may send me by Mr. Ashe $20 dollars as I will not have any to go on after getting there. I owe a doctors bill there of about $20 dollars I wish to pay if Sam is in need of his money he settled it long since with Jourden. I have selected all the jour -als laws &c &c and can bring them up when I come. There are other book[s] here I wish you to have as they are of no use to any one else & might be of some to you if of no other they would serve "to fill up, " make a show you know, which with more than half this little wooden world of our goes a long way, but of others beside the ones you have written for I will get you to select yourself Sallie is not very well today but nothing serious. May heavens best blessings guide you in your struggles for honorable success is this the daily prayer of your loving Mother |
