| Transcript | Dear Son, a few days since I received a short note for Sam in which he said Mr. Sydnor had told him that he Sydnor had sold his Clear Creek interest for $500 dollars & that I could sell mine in like proportion. Now I do not know whether Mr. S had a smaller or a larger interest than I have, nor do I know to whom I could sell, or if I did whether it would be best to sell at what seems such a sacrifice. Yet I am almost convinced that Trueheart has & will manage the thing all for his own interest & into his own hands. I might be able to judge of the matter better by seeing Mr. Sydnor myself I feel pretty well well convinced that we never c will realize much out of the matter without years further delay and expense in what may be an expensive and fruitless Lawsuit after having much trouble & vexation with still further delay. You will perceive that I am thinking seriously of making the sacrifice at once and be done ----------------------------------------------------------- with it forever. I would like however to have your sage advice before I move in the matter, but it is not convenient for me to go up to the Burg at present possibly I could Go up on the next Sundays Boat if Gaston gets home by that time which he expects to do. Could you meet me there & in case I do not go up see Mr. Sydnor & gain from him what information you can. I suppose we could not hope to make anything out of Mrs. Allen on the S[ ] of the transaction on the part of her Husband & self being a swin -dle, she could easily hide away her means if she has anything so it could not become at even could I have the complicated matter [ ] veled and prove the Transaction to have been a premeditated swindle You little know how many sad mo -ments this matter has cost me to see myself & children suffering for the comforts that amount would supply us with is hard for me to bear, as it has been lost through ----------------------------------------------- my bad management You as well as the rest are st- ruggling with poverty, how often do I think of you my dear Son and feel a desire to write and bid you God speed, but what can I say is the question. I am powerless in point of means, and all I can offer is my boundless love & sympathy - while I pray your path way to better & brighter days may not be mingled with the [ ] your Mothers have been My health is not very good // at this time, tho better than it has been for some time past I was a little more than half sick for three weeks after my return from Sams; In case you can come down to the "Burg" by next Sunday and do not find me there come on down & in case you cannot come down write me & address to the care of Saml and Gaston ------------------------------------------- will bring the letter to me by next Friday on Saturday as by that time his Boat will be ready to have there and he will home on her Gaston is here today (Tuesday) I hear very flattering accounts of you in every way a bright future is predicted for you as a lawyer and as a man in all the relations of life. Keep out of matrimony until you can see the day clear at least. This is advice unasked for &c &c Sallie & her little ones are well her own health is somewhat better than it has been the past summer Write me Within the next Two days in case You cannot come Down to the Burg As ever Your loving Mother Mary Jones I have written with a pencil for the reason that my paper is thin & I had to write in a hurry.
