TranscriptSunday Jan 28th ‘/72 My Dear Son Owing to adverse winds and cold weather I have not been able to get my letter off. I have an opportunity today by Mrs Franck who goes up to spend a week with Mrs Stewart, consequently [I] add a few more lines to say all are well, my own health is much improved. And I never saw any one improve more that "Sis" has in the last three weeks. We have had a terrible spell of weather, have had hard freezing. Gastons Boat is at the Brick yd above Morgans Point it was fortunate he was at home to get up wood. Sams Boat is on the Bar at the mouth of Cedar Bayou, has been there for ten days ------------------------------------------- oh dear I get terrible out with Boats as a means of support it is worse if possible than "Grind ing noses" or equally slow in bring[ing] in the where withall all The past severe cold will I hope ensure us a fruit crop if it does no other damage in loss of stock &c My letter wil[l] be more like a journal than a letter I will try to write you once every two weeks. I regret this delay as the item of infor mation respecting the Ira Jones Title may be of interest in getting the money from Austin.
