| Transcript | Sunday Evening Head Quarters Dec 17th, /71 My Dear Son I received your short note by the hands of our old friend Louis whom I find unchanged in kind recollections of the past, he did not see Sis as she had not yet moved here but I am happy in being able to inform you that she is now here arrived today. I have been very busy for the last two weeks in getting the house put to rights & ready for her reception. Sam & family will occupy the old dining room & largest log cabin room for the present, all live separately City but very near neighbors City fashion somewhat. I have entire controll of the place. Sallies health continues from having something like dumb chills every evening. I hope you may be able to come down Christmas, we will be fixed up all ship shape by that time I will have a nice little nook for you in any room. I was truly very glad to see Lonie but did not see enough of him as it was late in the day before he reached here and left in the evening. He told me that you made it very pleasant for him in Houston, which no doubt he appreciated as he told me that many of his old school Boy friends seemed rather cold and in- different to him ---------------------------------------------------------- I enjoy reading the papers you send every week. Yesterday a lot came but as yet I have not had time to read the Presidents message. We will all have stoves in our respective depart- ments besides cooking stoves, which is a tolerable substitute for a fire place. When I have more leisure and can get some ink I will write you more at length As ever Your loving Mother M Jones. |
