TranscriptHead Quarters August 5th, /70 My Darling Crommy I left you almost sick with a cold, found Jimmie Cornett at the Island that night crossed over with him which made my cold & cough worse and by the time I reached home was ready to go to bed, which I did & took medcine and now feel quite well tho not rid of my cold yet. I went down to see Sis yes- terday came home this morning, she is quite complaining with pains all through her arms thighs legs & back something like Rheumatisms. Next week if I keep well I intend to spend it with her and take her thought a course of medcine I pray nothing has prevented Mr. Ashe from going up to Houston on my busin= ess and that I may hear something favora- ble from him in a shirt time, I sent up two letters by the Boat Sunday one was from Mr. Chappell who gave ----------------------------------------------------- the two notes now in question he says he will not pay them, the other was from Maz. Lea of Cours - In case I am compelled to pay them I may be able to put it off for awhile so as to raise the money out of something else & not have to use any present available means &c &c Sam Ashe said to me that he thought he would go & see Norwood when he came down from Austin that perhaps he could do more with him than you could If he can do so he shall not lose by do= ing so, Now he did not say certain that he would go & see him but rather intima- ted that it would be best perhaps for him to do so. Consult freely with him, and if any letters come show them to him as I have every confidence that he will do all he can to serve our interests in the ma- tter. Write me by Sam As ever your loving Mother Mary Jones
