| Transcript | 1870 [in another's hand] April 3rd Sunday Sam Ash did not return by our house, or rather passed without my seeing him as he did not stop. Sam is talking of going up to the "Burg" We have been out of Sugar & Coffee for the last four days, which I have missed very much, owing to my not being very well for the past four days. I have rheumatism in my knees & legs, at times the pain is quite severe, and after sett= ing a while it is with difficulty I can get up and get myself in Motion, But once I get started I can go very well, but very often in some pain, Yet I keep going not withstanding - Oh I wish I could thing of something to write, I feel as if my ideas had all taken their leave or that I am so stupified that I cannot think of anything to say But if I could see you I would find ------------------------------------------------- something to say Do come down if possible Well Sam has just come in and says the water is all our of the Bay and his Boat is at Mrs Roberts so he will not get off this evening Did I mention that Mr Bollinger was dead. Mr Hill a Nephew of Mr Bollingers who lives at San Felipe wrote to me about the children that is Kate John & Laura Cook Marys little daughter, he went over To Calvet and brought them to his house Laura is with her Fathers brother who lives at San Felipe Mr Hill wrote me that the children were destitute of clothing & had not been to school any of and said he was sending Kate and John to school. Mr Bollinger died the 4th of last Sept. he said "he took the chi dren as he saw they were bound to suffer" I wrote to himn that I would take them Sallie wants one of them and I can keep John & Kate, he did not say anything about Fanny she too may be dead As ever affect ionately thy Mother Mary Jones |
