| Description | Clyde Fitzgerald is a native of Houston. His father and two uncles worked as longshoremen on the Houston Ship Channel. He started working as a longshoremen in 1959. He worked his way through the ranks and became president of the International Longshoremen's Association (ILA), South Atlantic Gulf Coast District, which represents longshoremen union members from Brownsville, Texas, to North Carolina. |
